Industry Event – DataMine Exploration Symposium 2024
Hetherington’s Managing Consultant Ngaire Koch was among the 10 insightful presenters who shared their expertise at Datamine’s Exploration Symposium 2024 in Perth on 12 June 2024.
With over 70 passionate attendees, the symposium was a fantastic exploration of our industry’s potential. Held at the stunning DoubleTree by Hilton overlooking the Swan River, the day was filled with enriching discussions, valuable connections, and a chance to catch up with colleagues.
A big shoutout to all the presenters, including Ngaire, for their enlightening and inspiring presentations! You all played a huge role in the event’s success.
Regulatory Update – Richmond v Warden Thomas William McPhee (CIV/2404/2023)
On 17 June 2024, Seaward J heard Richmond v Warden Thomas William McPhee (CIV/2404/2023) (Richmond) in the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Richmond was a Supreme Court review of the Warden’s decisions delivered in William Robert Richmond v Regis Resources Limited [No.2] [2023] WAMW 23 and William Robert Richmond v Regis Resources [No.3] [2023] WAMW 44, challenging the Warden’s correctness of the line of authority with respect to the construction of section 58(1)(b) of the Mining Act 1978 (WA) (Mining Act).
The outcome of this decision will be monumental to industry, potentially challenging the validity of pending, and granted exploration licences in Western Australia.
