Hetherington would like to express our condolences regarding the recent passing of Robert (Bob) Harrison. Bob was a widely respected tenement expert and industry advocate. Bob’s absence will undoubtedly be felt across the industry for years to come.
Following Bob’s passing, Bob’s family has entrusted Hetherington with the very great honour of becoming the custodian of the services diligently carried out by Bob and Mining Title Services (MTS) for the past 53 years. As such, Hetherington has acquired the business of MTS.
All who met Bob know how important his work and his clients were to him, and are greatly appreciative to have been given formal endorsement from Bob’s family to carry on the great work Bob did for his clients.
A huge congratulations to Preeti Varadarajan and Jake Welton from our Perth Hetherington team for being admitted into the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Thank you Sara Winton for moving their admissions. Very well deserved Preeti and Jake!

Hetherington would like to celebrate International Women’s Day 2022 with a spotlight on just one of our many fabulous female leaders!
Tamara Woods is a geoscientist and mining law specialist who has had a passion for mining and resources since before she can remember. It started with dinosaurs, gems and fossils and at the grand old age of ten she visited her first mine! She even slipped in a quick visit to a mine when she first travelled overseas!
“When I started at Hetherington six years ago, I was one of the few female consultants in the team. Since then, I have seen a huge influx in the number of females entering the tenement management, environmental and mining law industry. This has been particularly so at Hetherington where 78% of our consultants and lawyers are female. In my opinion, Hetherington likes to #breakthebias each and every day, attracting a diverse group of individuals based not only on the nature of the work, but also because of the supportive, inclusive and progressive environment Hetherington offers!”

A number of our Sydney Hetherington team members, including Tamara Woods, Nethmi Amarasekera, Dakota Scott, Sarah Fox, Lucy Peters, Sarah Waley and Ashlee Sutherland enjoyed a great presentation at this year’s AusIMM WIMnet International Women’s Day luncheon. Shirley Chowdhary gave us some fascinating insights into the history of International Women’s Day (first held in 1911!), and suggested ways we can leverage the mining industry’s ‘hunger for change’ to see further equality across all aspects of diversity and inclusion. Looking forward to future AusIMM and WIMnet #diversityandinclusion #miningindustry #future events in 2022!
A big welcome to Sarah Waley, Lisa Cannata and Avril Bannink for joining the Hetherington team in March 2022.
Sarah is an experienced Client Care Executive who will be working with our clients and team to further streamline, innovate and enhance our clients’ journey. Sarah’s appointment is in line with our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.
Lisa is a solicitor and ecologist, with a background in engineering and science and has joined us as a consultant in Sydney.
Avril is a soon to be solicitor with a background in construction and has joined us as a consultant in Perth.
Lisa, Avril and Sarah join the team of close to 20 experienced consultants around the country delivering tenement management, legal and environmental solutions to our clients in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and beyond.
They look forward to meeting you!
Things have been busy here at Hetherington in the lead up to the long weekend!
We attended the Women In Mining NSW (WIMnet) Mentoring launch as a Sponsor, a Women In Mining NSW Committee Member and as a Mentor and Mentee. As always, it is fabulous to be involved in such a worthwhile industry cause!
David also visited our Perth office for the first time since the opening of the WA border! It was great to catch up with the team in person and even go out for dinner with those who could make it!
